Should Backup Goalie Use Be Mandated By The League?
Backup Goalie Use
As suggested by several of the GMs, here is the poll for the backup goalie use.

Re: Backup Goalie Use
I voted no because I believe lineups are part of strategy and GMs should decide their own strategy.
I also do not know what the penalty would be for not using them nor how we would enforce it? I like to keep the league rules as simple as possible to understand, follow and enforce.

I voted yes. For keeping the game realistic a front up netminder shouldn't play more than 70 games...even 70 honestly is a lot.

Re: Backup Goalie Use
I voted for 10 games.
While I agree with the commish that it really should be on the GM to decide what he wants to do, its utterly pointless to ride a goalie for all 82. I rode Varlamov one year for like 75+ and he went from an 86 to an 85.

Re: Backup Goalie Use
Well, it looks like we will be mandating backup goalie use.
Here is a rough draft of the new rule:
No goalie can play more than 72 games in one regular season. Any GM that uses a goalie more than 72 games will be subject to suspension during the playoffs for the number of games over 72 that the goalie has played. Suspensions will not apply to non-playoff teams.
An example would be: At the end of the season, team rosters will be reviewed and if a GM played their goalie 76 games in a season, they would be suspended from playing 4 playoff games.
Sound Good?

Re: Backup Goalie Use
Um...would maybe getting them to bench their goaltender for the playoffs be better? Just don't think anyone wants to have to play a CPU. Maybe a minutes and gp min of 10gp and 600minutes would be better. Anybody else?

Re: Backup Goalie Use
I like the idea of any # of games played results in the penalty length. I think Tampas revision is great also. Though I suspect we won't have any candidates anyway, but I'm in favor of the back-up having to play that # of games in the playoffs.
