Columbus stormed out of the gate in game number 1 against the Carolina Hurricanes and scored two goals in the first 5 minutes and held on for the rest of the period to lead 2-0 after one then it was all hurricanes and there powerplay in period 2.  The hurricanes gained a 5 minute powerplay when the jackets player was thrown out for a hitting from behind penalty and the hurricanes answered the bell twice evening up the score and adding one just before the period ended to take the lead 3-2 heading into the third.  Bluejackets coach Todd Richards had a tough decision to make as he made his way through the tunnel headed to the locker room to stick with the defending Vezina Trophy winner Sergei Bobrovsky who has not been stellar this season but has got the job done or go to the backup Micheal Leighton.  Todd Richards stuck to his main man and kept Bob in the game and hoped for Bob not to pull a Fluery-esque playoff performance.  The Jackets came alive when they got a power play of their own and cashed in 5 seconds into the powerplay with a faceoff win from duchene to gaborik where he buried it into the back of the net.  Columbus would end up scoring 4 in the third and winning by the score of 6-3

Game two Started off bad for the bluejackets giving up two first period goals and losing Jack Johnson to injury and Marian Gaborik in the first period.  The bluejackets could never catch back up and Cam Ward was a brick wall in net. Everytimie the jackets would pull within a goal the hurricanes would pull away and the Canes finished off the game and won by a score of 6-4.  Marian Gaborik would return the next game as he left the game with a strained hamstring however Jack Johnson would be out for four games with a injured stomach.

Game 3 was all Jackets holding a shutout till the third period when the canes finally would light up the score board with a final of 7-2.

Game 4 Everything Columbus was shooting was going in.  The jackets would chase Cam ward out of the net and Khuobin would come in but would have the same fate as Cam ward where he couldn't stop a beach ball.  11-3 would be the final of this blowout

Game 5 was closer with the score being 6-3 but the offensive firepower proved to be to much for the 4th seeded Hurricanes out of the metropolitan division.  The jackets would advance in 5 games and awaiting the victor of the Philadelphia Flyers vs New Jersey Devil game I believe.  Matt Duchene was the leading Point getter in the series with 2 goals 10 assists for 12 points.  The Bluejackets powerplay was at an impressive 62.5% going 5-8.  But the penalty kill was the exact opposite as the canes also went 4-10 on there powerplay.  Jack Johnson also announced to the Columbus Dispatch that although injured he would be ready and will play in game one of the next round
